Not So Huge
I renamed my Tumblog so that when people quote me it will say benjaminstein: instead of huge:
I think that’s a good change. Not sure yet.

Cox Doesn't Get to be the One Who Decides
Om Malik has a nice summary of Cox’s decision to start traffic shaping (e.g. delaying certain types of Internet traffic).
From the article:
“…automatically ensures that all time-sensitive Internet traffic — such as web pages, voice calls, streaming videos and gaming — moves without delay. Less time-sensitive traffic, such as file uploads, peer-to-peer and Usenet newsgroups,...
Twitter is not public infrastructure
Marco posted a little while ago in response to Twitter Limits Potential App Growth.
I’ve been thinking about his response over the past few days:
Is Twitter’s rate-limiting the only factor giving you pause about building a business that depends on Twitter? Maybe I’m a cynic, or maybe it’s the programmer in me trying to enumerate all possible failure cases, but I’ll never feel comfortable...

'Immortal' Jellyfish Swarming Across the World →
Whoa! I wonder if this is how the scientists at Puppy Recycling have been doing it?
Also, this is the most horrifying thing I’ve ever heard. I seriously think we should set aside part of the US stimulus package to keep this gene sequence away from the monkey robots…

OpenCongress: American Recovery and Reinvestment... →
OpenCongress links to all the details about the proposed recovery plan. The summary of the plan available from the House website (pdf) is a very interesting read. Really psyched about some of these programs!

I have no idea how many people actually read this blog, because the only numbers I care about anymore are the number of people who follow this blog via their tumblr dashboard. Everyone else is dead to me.
The Country's New robots.txt File →
A geeky perspective on how much change has just come to Washington.
The robots.txt file for Bush’s http://whitehouse.gov had a shocking 2,400 “Disallow” lines!
Obama’s has 1.

Do Liquidation Sales Really Mean Better Bargains? →
Circuit City’s going-out-of-business liquidation prices are still higher than Walmart’s!
It’s funny because it’s true.
Once Upon A Win: Epic Wins from when we were kids →
I usually don’t like nostalgia and reminiscing (usually it just gets as far as Thundercats before I get bored), but this blog is just too right-on to pass up. They’ve done such an unbelievable job of summarizing my childhood. Wow.

From Kennyb: (prettyhuge) Did I tell you guys that I confronted my parents in re: the twitter thing? My mom was like “What’s a twitto?” and my dad was all “I had to come to your apartment to get Skype hooked up, how do you think I know what Twitter is?”
Am I psyched or pissed that I have to reblog a conversation that I had with somebody from a third party’s tumblr? If...

What kind of paperwork does Obama have to sign on his first day? Does he have to choose a healthcare plan? Does he have to pay a deposit to get the nuke keys? Does he have to sit through a boring seminar on worker safety?
Great questions! I also wonder if he has administrator privileges on his work computer. Do they block Facebook and AIM at the office?
Fluid Dock Badge for Tumblr Dashboard →
Just finished testing my userscript with the new version of Tumblr. I confirmed it’s compatible with version 5. Yay. I also moved the code to GitHub (in addition to userscripts.org) for easier sharing.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, see my original post about the Fluid/Tumblr dock badge.
